Check your phone before you buy

You need a phone that supports eSIM and isn't locked to a single carrier.

1. Look for an EID

Phones with eSIM have a unique EID number. Dialling *#06# shows it on many devices. On iPhone, look in Settings → General → About. On Android, look in Settings → About phone (the exact path varies by manufacturer).

2. Check it's unlocked

A phone bought from a carrier may be locked to that network. On iPhone, Settings → General → About shows "No SIM restrictions" when unlocked. On Android, check with your carrier or try a SIM from another network.

3. Regional variants

Some models are sold without eSIM in certain countries. If you're unsure, check the specification for your exact model number with the manufacturer.

Installing

  • Connect to Wi-Fi before scanning the QR code.
  • Add the eSIM from your mobile/cellular settings, then label it (e.g. "Travel data").
  • At your destination, choose the eSIM for mobile data and enable data roaming on that line.
  • Keep your main SIM for calls and texts, or switch its data off to avoid roaming charges.
